Holding Space in a Changing World: Reclaiming Joy as Fuel for Sustainable Coaching Performance with Cristina Custodio (MCC) and Gloria Custodio (PCC)

We live in a world where the news arrives faster than our bodies can metabolize it—and yet, Tuesday still expects us to function. As coaches and coaching sponsors, we sit on Zoom calls holding space for organizational strategy, career transitions, and leadership development, while both we and our clients are quietly metabolizing systemic, economic, and climate precarity. Too often, coaching culture responds with the myth of the “heroic coach” who is expected to remain endlessly resilient, perfectly regulated, and emotionally unaffected. This performance of composure has a cost: a silent, bone-deep exhaustion. Based on their book, Joy Is Fuel: How Coaches Sustain Themselves and Their Clients in Hard Times, sisters and coaching partners Cristina Custodio (MCC) and Gloria Custodio (PCC) invite you to put down your “composure masks” for an hour. This interactive session is designed as a sanctuary and a somatic workshop for the spaceholders. Through the lens of sustainable performance, this session moves “self-care” out of individual blame and into structural arithmetic. Coaches will learn “dual-use” somatic and cognitive practices—frameworks they must experience in their own bodies first before they can ethically and effectively bring them to their clients and organizations.
