Workshop: The Divided Self: Exploring Parts ‘in Need’ of Coaching
Magdena Bak-Maier
Summary
Have you ever found yourself working hard yet feeling as if you and/or your clients were not shifting towards better? In this practical workshop I will draw together my exploration of a powerful and evidence-based model of psychotherapy called Internal Family Systems developed by Richard Schwartz which appeals to me as a neuroscientist, along with my observations as a coaching client and coach, to ask could curiosity and compassion for our multi-faceted and divided self be as useful in coaching as it is in therapy. The session will include opportunity to explore oneself, learn about IFS theory and compare our experiences as well as two practical activities one can use with clients and self to prevent burnout, and support forward movement and flourishing based on greater wholeness.
My work is powered by a deep curiosity around how the mind, heart, body and spirit integrate together to support human agency, empowerment, healing and burnout recovery. My approach adopts a systemic lens and human-centric approach in which I combine: neuroscience and trauma-informed therapies, coaching, NLP, conflict resolution and original tools and frameworks I develop to support research leaders and teams in high-performance environments. I love to learn, teach, and improve how I practice and write. Books include: WeCoach! (2021), Body Talk (2019) Get Productive Grid (2015) and Get Productive! (2011). www.maketimecount.com
